Flanking the ridge a pair of slender, diagonally- set stacks, stepped and banded, with circular stone pots. Wall on south of yard has stop-chamfered gate piers with domed tops. Large squared stones, mostly re-used Roman material; stone slate roof. Pointed-arched doorway on east has old door of oak boards bolted into iron grille. Scattered fenestration, small chamfered loops except for larger trefoil-arched lights to north and south at 1st floor level. Hollow chamfered cornice below crenellated parapet (largely fallen except on south); remains of corbelled-out square angle bartizans. Several C18 headstones affixed to north and west walls, including stone to John Robson d. 1753; semicircular pedimented top enclosing cherub above line of key ornament. Interior: drawbar tunnel in inner jambs of entrance; similar arch from entrance lobby into barrel-vaulted basement. Mural stair to lobby with shelf and sink. 1st floor has window seats on north and south, fireplace with moulded surround on north and 2 wall cupboards on west. Further mural stair to 2nd floor (floor timbers missing) which has mural bookrest recess adjacent to window of north- west corner. The tower now houses a collection of medieval and earlier carved stones; in addition a number of medieval cross slabs have been re-used in the fabric, mostly as lintels over windows and the mural stairs. Elaborate carved figures and ornament above windows. Cornice below stepped gable with 2 slits, carved flagpole bracket, date panel and ornamental finials. Flanking parts have keyed arches at either end and shopfronts with arched central panes, except fourth bay which is rusticated and has arched window and doorway. 1st floor has large Ipswich oriels. In angle of centre and wing, taller corbelled-out turret with chamfered loop. North wall of wing shows various openings to former C16 hall block, including remains of Great Chamber fireplace at 1st floor level. South end of south turret shows ground-floor slit with gunloop, and 2-light C15 and C16 windows to upper floors. West elevation shows similar loops, and several 2- and 3-light windows with transoms and hoodmoulds to upper floors; corbelled-out stack to 2nd floor. To right, south turret has chamfered loops, and 2-light window to 1st floor. Interior: segmental barrel vaults on ground floor. C16/C17 moulded fireplaces to 1st and 2nd floors. Foundations removed 1881 may have been of earlier medieval castle of Divelstons. Roughly-squared stone and rubble with cut dressings; stone slate roofs. South elevation in 2 parts: left part 2 storeys, 3 bays, irregular; tower on right 3 storeys. Main part has 3-light windows except for 2-light between bays to right (replacing pre-1890 door), with 1700 sundial (probably a copy) above; to far right remains of chamfered shoulder-arched or pointed doorway to screens passage of original house. C19 moulded corbels to eaves; coped left end gable with finials; stepped-and-corniced left end and ridge stacks. Tower to right has 2-light window, 3-light windows to upper floors and hollow- chamfered cornice below flat-coped parapet; hipped roof. All windows leaded casements, in recessed and chamfered surrounds. Right return shows late C19 door with elaborate studding and ironwork in renewed shouldered arch, chamfered 1st floor loop and 2 stone spouts below parapet. Left return shows small C13 or C14 window with pointed arch, to right of C19 porch. Interior: Drawing room (original hall) has old chamfered beams on C19 moulded corbels and 2 service doorways in broad chamfered surrounds. Tower has east- west barrel vault and mural stair to 1st floor; newel stair to higher levels, lit by original loops (now internal). One jamb of original rear through- passage door remains; and the third service door appears to have been re-set in a rebuilt rear wall, possibly in the C16. Broad square end stacks have panelled corniced shafts. Flanking gabled wings have sash windows (4-pane in left wing, 12-pane in right) in architraves with slits above; coped gables with moulded kneelers and trefoil finials. Left return shows 6-panel door with plain overlight; tripartite sash to left. Right return shows similar doors flanking projecting bay with triple sash window; 3 12-pane sashes above. Rear elevation complicated: similar doors and various sash windows; stepped and corniced stacks. Interior: central pane of front door overlight has painted glass with White Horse (building was once Inn).
