Ashlar with plinth, lst and 2nd floor cill bands, raised window surrounds with keys. Hipped roofs with paired eaves brackets. Tower porch more ornate; balconies 1st and 2nd floor windows and bracketted broken pediment above 3rd floor window with a small pediment above in the cornice. Plate glass sash windows with segmental heads on 1st floor. Two 5-light rectangular bays on ground floor. Entrance has glazed semi-circular head and 3 stone corbels to the balcony above. 2 light pedimented dormers. North wing of 2 windows with inserted attic. South wing, the former Westfield House, is earlier and lavishly decorated. Centre breaks forward slightly with open ball-topped pediment containing ornamented tympanum. Centre flanked by rusticated piers on ground floor, panelled on 1st floor and has, on the ground floor a 4 light bay window with a segmental headed Venetian window on 1st floor. Architraves to windows, with cartouches on ground floor. Return to south has central doorcase with blind balustraded parapet above, supported on bracket capped pilasters. Interiors ornate strapwork and reproduction ceiling friezes. Cl7 style staircase. The southern wing of Prospect Rouse incorporates Nos 1 and 10 Hallgates. Early C19 brick. 2 storeys. 3 windows hipped roof to east. Interesting lodge at west end of No 1:- Rubble with ashlar quoins and crow stepped gable above a 2 storey 2 light shallow bow. West (entrance) front in 2 parts: main house symmetrical. 2 storeys, 3 bays, the central slightly recessed. Moulded plinth, 1st floor string. 3 steps up to central Greek Doric porch, distyle in antis, with panelled stone ceiling; within porch half-glazed double doors, with 2-pane overlight, in raised surround with dentil cornice. 12-pane sash windows with sunk panels below sills. Frieze and bold cornice below panelled parapet with balustraded section above each bay. Hipped roof with 2 transverse stepped-and-corniced compound ridge stacks. Lower wing, set back to left, 2 storeys, 5 bays. Plinth, eaves cornice. 16-pane sash windows except for 8-pane casements in projecting left bay with hipped roof. 2 tall rendered stepped-and-corniced ridge stacks. 4-bay south front with similar detail. East front: main house 5 bays, the central 3 slightly recessed and the end bay ground floor windows in architraves. Lower 4-bay wing to right. At far right a 2-bay screen wall returns to link with the now-separate east wing (q.v.). Interior: Entrance lobby with mural tables on moulded brackets, and Classical frieze With figures. Open-well open-string stair with moulded and wreathed handrail, wrought- iron balusters with drooping lily motif, fluted newel and curtail step; stair hall has dog wheel from Mitford Old Manor House (q.v.) and coffered ceiling. Double drawing room divided by screen with antae and carved consoles; carved fireplaces of marble and crinoidal limestone, coved cornice with anthemia and Greek key ornament. Dining room has crinoidal limestone fireplace and Classical frieze with musicians. Study has elaborate fireplace with herms, and plaster overmantel with allegorical figures; cornice with consoles, large ceiling rose. Central door in pedimented Corinthian doorcase a 1948/9 insertion. Set back to right, plainer 6-bay north wing with small-paned sashes. South front similar but of wider proportions, with some elongated ground floor windows; friezes and cornices on ground floor. All 1st floor windows pedimented, with coat of arms and garlands. Set back to left 1-storey, 3-bay extension of c.1820. Interior: ground-floor rooms largely late C18. Entrance hall: plaster cornice, doors with Greek Key pattern in reveals, with frieze and cornice over each. Wyatt Room: good plasterwork, screen with fluted columns and fireplace with chimneypiece panel. Drawing Room (former Saloon): deep moulded and modillioned cornice, mahogany doors with carved panels, elaborate overdoors with oak-leaf friezes; window shutters with egg-and-dart.
