Central tripartite French window in architrave with panelled pilasters, modillion cornice and balustrade; re-set forward 1969 as front of new porch. All windows sashes with glazing bars (some renewed), shorter on 2nd floor, in architraves; 1st and 2nd floor windows have cornices, the former console bracketed, the latter with bracket sills. Modillion eaves cornice and balustraded parapet. Hipped roof with stacks mostly rebuilt in yellow brick. Similar fenestration on irregular returns, each with a canted bay. North right wing of 3 storeys, 8 irregular bays. 1st short bay reputed to be a remnant of the medieval Whitfield Tower. Old 15-pane sashes to ground floor of 2nd and 3rd bays, other windows mostly renewed sashes; balustraded parapet. Rear elevation of main block shows 20-pane sash window with geometrical glazing. Interior: Geometrical stair with column-on-vase balusters and wreathed grip handrail. Ballroom has egg-and-dart cornice and panelled plaster ceiling with floral decoration. Bellcote with pointed-arched opening on gable. South wall of nave has 3-light window with simple panel tracery under 4-centred arch with hoodmould; similar 2-light window on south side of chancel. East end has 3-light window in C14 style. North wall completely plain. Interior: late C18 pointed chancel arch of plain square section with impost blocks. Chancel has Cl9 boarded ceiling with pierced and cusped arch braces springing from wall shafts. Panelled dado in nave. Late C18 baluster font. On north side of sanctuary lower part of elaborate coped C12 grave cover with lombardic inscription on ridge flanked by overlapping tiers of acanthus leaves cut in high relief. 4 early Cl9 wall tablets. The church of c.1790, which replaced a medieval building, originally had a 4-bay nave and a west tower. Corbelled-out stack on gabled right bay of rear elevation; lower part of left bays behind late C20 extension. All openings in recessed and chamfered surrounds;, ground-floor windows mostly casements, others plain sashes; coped gables on moulded kneelers. Twin-gabled right return shows studded door flanked by 12-pane sashes. Chancel has studded priest's door on south with foliate hinges, under moulded arch on shafted jambs; window of 2 trefoil-headed lights to right. Stepped triplet of lancets with hoodmoulds in east end. Pent vestry has twin lancets to east and stepped stack with round shaft on chancel wall. Interior: Plastered. Tall double-chamfered chancel arch on shafted responds has hoodmould with foliage boss stops. Integral stone pulpit with quatrefoil frieze and foliate corbel bookrest. Collar-beam nave roof with arch braces rising from moulded stone brackets; collared rafters and ashlar pieces. Collared common-rafter chancel roof with ashlar pieces. Panelled sanctuary and reredos dated 1885; moulded altar rail on wrought-iron standards. Simple choir stalls and bench pews in nave.
